Program Mission Statement: (self-reported)

The Mission of the Franciscan Mission Service [F.M. S.] is to prepare and commission Catholic women and men for extended assignments among the poor and oppressed of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. F.M.S. is an effort, supported by Franciscans of North America to educate faith communities and the larger society here in the theology and practice of the Church's mission in the World. The missioners preach the Gospel of Jesus through witnessing in their lives and work to God's preferential concern for alienated people, highlighted in Catholic social teaching and lived by Saints Francis and Clare. Upon return, they are expected to live out the life-changing experience in the home church and society of North America.
