Program Mission Statement: (self-reported)

The START program is a 5-level program with the primary directive of ending chronic homelessness and helping people to become or return to being contributing members of society. Most people are introduced to the program via our emergency shelter and then lovingly nudged to take the next steps. Since the START program is centered on ending chronic homelessness, all programming addresses the underlying causes for homelessness. Therefore our programming provides counseling, rehabilitation, and aftercare. Additionally the program addresses the underlying causes of homelessness by educating clients with classes on Freedom from Addiction, Becoming Employable, Developing Social Skills, Budget Management, Critical Thinking, and obtaining one's GED. Beyond the individual benefit this program provides for each participant, the START program is of societal value because it reduces criminal recidivism and increases the tax base of a community by encouraging stable housing and employment.
