Program Mission Statement: (self-reported)

Target 1000 is designed to demonstrate an effective faith-based alternative to juvenile incarceration as a cost-effect tool for reducing criminal recidivism. Under the leadership of UYI, four agencies that currently serve as independent juvenile specialists are collaborating to provide a continuum of interdiction services targeting 1000 juvenile offenders over the next four years. The objectives of this collaborative intervention are four-fold:

1) Keep them from re-entering the juvenile or adult justice system

2) Help them explore God’s love and purpose for their lives

3) Reconnect them to the educational or vocational system

4) Help them construct a life-plan for their future.

In the process, we expect to reduce juvenile recidivism 50 percent among early offenders, and by 25 percent among habitual or “institutionalized” youth.
