Change Process: (self-reported)

If after an initial interview an applicant agrees to enter the New Life Program, he immediately goes into a period called "Assessment" where the truth of his condition spiritually, educationally, vocationally, physically and legally are brought to light. This is where the vast majority of men who never complete the program leave. The realization of who they are now sometimes overwhelms their willingness to even begin the change process. Sometimes men will begin the program unsure of whether they really are capable of change. As time passes and they see that they are capable of taking small steps to aid in their own recovery as measured by their Chaplain, they gain in confidence and embrace the Program more wholeheartedly. As they come close to the completion their time in Program and begin their job and residency search, the men are prepared to begin living a new changed life and that the life skills and the relationships they acquired during the program are foundational for the maintenance of their new life. The Program Alumni Group meets regularly to encourage the new men in Program.
