Outcomes & Measures: (self-reported)

Outcome 1
65% of all adult residents will show improvement in the various skill sets needed to move toward self-sufficiency with an emphasis on parenting and relationship skills.

Measure
Each family will take an initial Growth Tracking Test and complete additional tests every three months. The final test scores will be compared with the preceding test scores and will give a measurable outcome for growth. Finally we will average the number of residents who showed growth against the entire sample.

Outcome 2
65% of the families will progress from the assessment phase through the extended stay program and graduate from the program securing long-term stable housing.

Measure
We will track the number of Families graduating and contrast this against all families leaving the program early. We will also verify each graduating family’s next housing situation. Each graduating family must have completed all of their Family Life Plan, be up to date with rent, completed the Resident Tracking Chart, met all participation guidelines and completed all other required courses.

Outcome 3
60% of families who participate in and depart the JS program will secure long-term, stable housing.

Measure
We will verify each family’s next housing situation (program, landlord, etc.) prior to leaving JS and obtain contact information for follow up interviews.

Outcome 4
75% of all graduating residents will still be in long-term, stable housing six months after graduating.

Measure
Interview each graduating family six months after they have left Joshua Station.

Outcome 5
40% of all graduating families will still be active in the Joshua Station community through volunteering or continued relationships after graduating.

Measure
Track the number of graduates who continue to volunteer or maintain relationship with JS families and staff during the interview taken six months after graduating.

Change Process: (self-reported)

Families come to Joshua Station living in a state of constant crisis. When they move in, they no longer have to worry about where they are going to sleep and they begin to feel comfortable. People who care about them – their family advocate, JS program team, ministry advocates, resident volunteers, administrative staff and their neighbors – surround them.

Families meet regularly with their family advocate and form a relationship of trust. Soon they are opening up about their struggles and begin to face issues of their past. They take advantage of resources to help them get out of debt, deal with legal issues, get counseling, get medical attention and obtain financial support where available (child support, disability, TANF). As these burdens begin to fall away, families can make plans for their future vs. react to crisis in the present because of bad decisions in their past.

Children get to be children. They feel secure and can relax as they watch their parents relax. They play with other children and interact with adults who are here to love them. They get counseling. Their basic needs are being met and their relationships with their parents improve.

Families learn new skills to help them navigate in the world – decision making, parenting, interpersonal relationships. Their confidence builds and they leave with a new foundation of relationships and resources for their future.

Families change because they are accepted for who they are, unconditionally loved, given grace and the opportunity to start over.
