Change Process: (self-reported)
CRM’s recovery programs address the spiritual, emotional, physical, social and vocational needs of our clients focusing on their addiction. We emphasize “authentic” Christianity. It can be very easy for our clients to act “religious” with no heart change. For them religion is defined as man trying to reach up to God and “impress him” Christianity is God reaching to man in the person of Jesus Christ to reconcile us to himself. With this emphasis we are able to address one of the core issues of addiction and brokenness -“shame”. Shame says, “I am wrong, I am defective. If you knew me, you wouldn’t like me. If God knew me, God wouldn’t like me.” We communicate the message of God’s unconditional love in Jesus Christ and stress both the doctrines of justification and sanctification. The first brings us into a right relationship to God through Christ. The second conforms our behavior to the image of Jesus Christ. The first doctrine changes our address when we die. The second one causes us to confront the character issues that keep us inactive addiction.
Our clients learn about addiction, health, emotional issues, Biblical principles for recovery, the 12 steps and more. They meet daily with their primary counselor, who helps guide them in their sobriety. The primary counselors challenge the client’s thinking and behavior with the goal to see a true “heart” change for the clients. The greatest changes come when a client acknowledges his/her past and learns that God is forgiving and loving.
