Outcomes & Measures: (self-reported)
Outcome 1
Improved parenting skills
Measure
Attitude toward child; time spent with child; participation in additional activities offered by the CHPC away from the school setting
Outcome 2
Spiritual growth (even though we cannot talk much faith and Christianity in the schools, we do get it worked in and then we encourage participants to come to many other activities outside the school setting)
Measure
Church attendance; desire to read Bible stories to their children; discussions with mentors
Outcome 3
Seeing a balance of their teen life and their parenting
Measure
School attendance and participation in the parent/child programs offered
Outcome 4
Improved care of the well being of their child
Measure
Monitoring their child's doctor visits and etc. -- seeing an improvement in their child's dress and general care
Outcome 5
Growth in the teen parent's self-worth -- especially in sexual behavior
Measure
That they begin to value their bodies sexually -- become secondary virgins
Change Process: (self-reported)
A new comer to the class will seem unsure and worry that their parenting skills will be judged. They soon realize that we are there to love, guide and teach so they relax and begin to open up about their parenting, sex partners, dreams desires -- in fact, they allow us to become the mentor and friend. --- With the improvement of their self-esteem follows improved parenting skills.
